The Many Views of Babylon the Great
As far as other interpretations of Babylon the Great, everything else works only if you are using incorrect eisegesis techniques of interpretation. They work fine when using only one or two verses, but as soon as you look everywhere else God is describing Babylon the Great, and suddenly, it becomes very problematic, doesn’t fit.
These issues only exist if you believe we are in the last generation just before the Return of Christ. If we are the Last Generation, which many believe we are, according to the Fig Tree Prophecy, the only interpretation of Babylon the Great that scripture supports is that it must be America. Any other interpretation is very very weak at best and becomes very very problematic.
On the other hand if we are not the last generation before the 2nd Coming of Christ other scenarios could fulfill these descriptions. When people do not believe America is Babylon the great here are some scenarios to understand where exactly they are coming from in scripture.
The View that there is no rapture and the descriptions in scripture of the rapture are actually descriptions of God’s Judgment of mankind after the Church rules the earth a 1,000 years.
Similar to the “post” view. This is kind of confusing to me on their beliefs and books are not very helpful either. It seems they believe that there is no 1,000 year reign of the church or they believe this reign already occurred with the Holy Roman Empire during some 1,000 year period in the Holy Roman Empire history.
If you are a-millennial or post-millennial as many Catholics and Catholic influenced ecumenical sects are you might believe that there is no rapture and Christ returns after the 1000 year millennium. Typically they believe Christ’s rein on earth as King of kings for the 1,000 years is not a literal reign, rather a period when the church rules the earth in an absolute Christian religion theocracy similar to the Holy Roman Empire did before Martin Luther except without the corruption. This same group believes all of the book of Revelation was fulfilled when Rome marched on the 2nd Temple in Jerusalem. This was the predominant view in the Body of Christ no matter what sect of Christianity you belonged to until Darby came with his new dispensation method of bible study in the late 1800′s and WWI & WWI. The problem with this a-millennial or post-millennial view is when WWI and WWII came people started to realize the world was not gradually getting better when the church would take over the world for a 1,000 years to usher in the Great White Throne Judgment Seat of God. So because of this Christians returned to scripture to re-evaluate these weak positions and the pre-millennial view Darby’s (dispensations view). I know this is all confusing if you are new to these terms but the easiest way to make sense of all this is to learn the recent history of the church.
The “Hurt” or “Hate,” sects of Christianity believe the Pope or Catholic church must be the False Prophet that will work side by side with a ECU or UN Antichrist. These people were greatly influence by 7th Day Adventism, Church of Christ, Church of God with preachers in the last 50 years that came with chalkboards and calculators incorrectly teaching that Daniel’s 70 weeks of years (sic) predicted the birth of Christ.Usually they would top their sermons on prophecy with a future Pope would be the False Prophet with a wealthy genius Antichrist that would be a dictator of the ECU or UN forcing a peace agreement between Israel and Islam. The 7th Day Adventists would even take it a step further by claiming the False Prophet Pope would “force” all of Christianity to go to church on Sundays instead of Saturdays.
And then we have Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Mormons. They have a tendency to believe they are the absolute church. Anyone outside them is not in the church. So their views are a little egocentric like cathlocism. They believe Babylon the Great is outside of them, the fallen church
This concise description gives a clear concise description of America if we are in the last generation. This description is so concise by God no othernation could be Babylon the Great. America surely is this materialistic consumer nation that makes the nations of the earth rich by purchasing their luxurious goods. America surely is Babylon the Great.
So the only way other interpretations of WHO Babylon the Great works is if your disregarding huge and I mean HUGE portions of scripture. I really do not see any other country that could fit God’s description. And this truly is an earthquake among all the theologians today. They are lining up on both sides. And for generation after generation the theologians were blocking any different interpretation of prophecy since Martin Luther.
The seminaries were so legalistic that someone, a seminarian that didn’t tow the line, was belittled in seminary. I can guarantee people were blocked from graduation and everything like that many times over. But since the WWW people have Liberty and these, what were classified as fruitcakes now can Preach the truth and proper interpretations of these prophecies. The evidence for America being Babylon the Great is quite massive. In fact I did a sermon with all the scripture that supports this view. I should post it soon on your site here, but in the mean time here is the link:
