Teach Your Children Well
The most important job we have is to pass the gospel to our children. We must be a witness to them first. This was the cause of the fall of mankind, think about that for a minute. How can I say that, you may wonder.
God gave the word to Adam which was only one sentence, Genesis 2:17. We know when we read in verse 18 that Eve was not created yet. In verse 21 &22

it reads  God caused Adam to have a deep sleep. God then took one of Adam’s ribs and created Eve. Eve was born of flesh from Adam just like a child is born of the flesh of parents. Eve in a sense was like Adam’s child, so it was Adam’s job to teach the gospel to Eve. So Man was created from the dust of the earth while Eve was created from a part of Adam just like our children.
We do not know how long Adam was on earth before Eve was created, but we do know one thing. Adam never taught the gospel to Eve. This was Adam’s failure to Eve. The failure is the same when we do not pass the gospel to our children. Look at Genesis 3:2-3. Eve is doing all the talking while Adam is standing there being quiet, being passive. Adam never passed on the gospel to Eve. Adam never taught Eve God’s words. Adam never corrected Eve, he never spoke up.
We see the same problem with Cain and Able. This time it was both of their fault, which indicates it was both their faults the first time. We see Cain kills Able out of jealousy of God’s love. Cain was never taught to be careful and trust God’s words. Adam and Eve never taught Cain to follow God, [no matter where He takes you or what he asks you]. They never taught Cain the hard lesson they learned that got them banned from the Garden Of Eden. If they had Cain would never have rebeled like he did. They never taught Cain what the Garden Of Eden was like, nor did they teach him God’s unfailing love. They never taught him how crafty Satan was, how Eve was deceived, how Adam failed to teach Eve the gospel, God’s holy words.
We see all throughout the bible great men and women of God like King David, Jacob, Samuel the prophet, and many many others that time and time again did not successfully pass the gospel to their children, did not teach their children how good God is, how to sing from their hearts about God. If there is a top five bible lessons that God reveals to us in the bible, this surely, must be one of them. We must pass the absolute truth of the gospel to our children. Our children depend on it, church growth depends on it and it is the right thing to do.
Great Godly people throughout history have struggled to pass the gospel to their children. Even Jesus’ mother Mary appears to have struggled in this endeavor, See my sermon titled “The Brothers and Mother of Jesus,” at this link:.
The Half Brothers and Mother of Jesus So passing the gospel to our children is something to be very proud of indeed, for many a great men and women have failed in this skill.
